Set on top of a grassy knoll, with kangaroos grazing in the distance, it’s not hard to see why this home has won so many awards. Completed in mid-2018, Kingfisher is a large-block residential development in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

With vistas of the sub-tropical rainforest visible from the living areas and the bedrooms, we focused on ensuring the home was correctly oriented to take full advantage of passive design principals – a crucial element in all Void Build Design projects. Combined with a simple pallet of colours and materials to ensure an understated design, the result highlights the natural elements of stone and timber.

The open-plan kitchen and living area flows out to a fantastic outdoor entertaining area and pool, and the entire home is laid out to maximise the beautiful breezes and warm winter sun.

Constructed by Mark Blinco and his team at Blinco Constructions, the care and attention to detail of the build are a testament to the design. The property first won the regional Sunshine Coast residential house of the year between $350,000 to $450,000, then went on to win at the state level.

Finally, in November 2018, Kingfisher was announced as the winner of the ‘National Project Home $350,000 to $500,000’ category of the Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.
