FINDLAY RESIDENCE

The Findlay Residence was designed with resort living in mind, a convivial coastal retreat where the client’s family could gather at key times of the year, a home away from home, a place to leave a hectic city life behind and simply unwind.

Void Building Design took the climate and the urbanity of the area as guiding principles.

The land in Portsea, on Victoria’s stunning Mornington Peninsula sits just a short stroll from the ocean and the bay.

From the clients perspective it was critically important to create spaces that were light filled, breathed naturally and gave the impression that you were on holidays in some far flung place on the other side of the world.

It was vitally important to provide numerous living spaces throughout the dwelling so that individual family members could retreat and enjoy some quality peace and quiet, a game of pool, a board game or movie.

The central pool courtyard, with its entertaining terrace, acts as a focal point to the house, facing north to capture the sun. By connecting directly to the large living area, the indoor and outdoor spaces become one. Through views give the house a sense of transparency and lightness: expanses of operable glass encourage natural light and sea breezes, drawing the coastal atmosphere into the house itself.
